Ecotone was hired to design an ecologically sensitive master plan for this six acre property located in Dundee, Oregon. The design objective was to preserve and enhance the existing native oak savannah and woodland that surrounded the newly constructed home, but to also provide outdoor living space with an expansive edible garden.
A variety of native vegetation was specified for the expansive landscape areas further from the house footprint, providing habitat for native wildlife and keeping maintenance low. Adjacent to the house, the simple, modern architecture of the home provided great opportunity for an outdoor courtyard with a view to a terraced edible garden space, conveniently located next to the kitchen. Local stone was specified to create organic, free flowing walls to stabilize steep hillsides and provide more usable space for the home owners.
